The Hero’s Journey
We take our name, Full Circle, from Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth he termed ‘The Hero’s Journey’. This pattern, clearly present in thousands of stories across hundreds of cultures and widely shared over thousands of years, posits that true transformation involves traversing three distinct fundamental stages including the ‘Departure’, ‘Initiation’ and finally the ‘Return’.
During the Departure, the ‘Hero’ leaves the confines of his/her comforts and heads into the great unknown. The Hero must heed a ‘Call to Adventure’ (in our case, a ‘Call to Conservation’) and cross a threshold where there is no turning back. Once the Hero departs, s/he enters into the unknown and becomes initiated through a series of trials and tribulations constantly tested by both friends and foes, with help from some super mentors along the way. All leading up to a Revelation Point. It is here where the Hero is reborn and hence forth Transformed. To come Full Circle, the Hero must finally choose to Return home to share their newfound wisdom and perspective to help make the world a better place.
